My students are constantly moving. They learn best through movement, which is why I incorporate many songs and dances into our schedule. The balancing stools (otherwise known as wiggle chairs in my classroom) and bouncy chairs were discovered by my students in a neighboring classroom. These alternative forms of seating instantly captured the hearts of my kindergarteners. Countless times, they have asked me to get some. They will be used in place of plastic chairs throughout the entire day to help my students move their body without distracting others, all while helping them to enhance their focus and encourage learning. Since my students are so young, they are still learning to control their bodies, which is why these core-engaging seating options will be so beneficial for them. Overall, my class is missing a foundational piece in their social and sensory development. These chairs would help them develop those areas. It will also help them improve academically because the part of their brain that is telling them to move will be satisfied, which will allow them to focus their attention to learning their letters and sounds. I have been trained in Early Childhood and whole heartedly believe that these fidget controlling seating options will change my student's entire school day.
