My first graders are inquisitive, friendly, intelligent, and quite diverse. I have a class of 22 students, as diverse culturally as any class I have had. These students are children of parents from Africa, the Philippines, India, Mexico, Laos, Finland, Honduras, and of course the United States. Two of my children are adopted and several are from single-parent families. Five students are English-language learners (EL students). Valley View Elementary School has an API score of over 800. I have a standing personal goal to teach all of my students to not only learn how to read, but to love reading and to possess a continual excitement with learning and exploring.
