Classrooms should be a place where students feel comfortable "letting their hair down." Unfortunately, many appear institutional and sterile, far from a cozy space students enjoy. The light covers will dim the harsh florescent lights, while the rug, comfy seating, numerous fidgets and table will create a space for students to calm themselves. This could be after a stressful interaction with a peer, or just an assignment that was particularly challenging. It will allow students a way to relieve their stress or frustration in a relaxing and positive way. There will be opportunity for reflection as well. Students spend more time in our classroom during the school year than they do at home and they certainly should enjoy it! A classroom should be an inviting space, where students love to be. Through cool colors and a space designated for them to calm themselves if needed, I hope to provide them with an environment conducive to learning; one that is also inviting.
