Classroom environment is very important in a first grade class. It's conventional wisdom that different types of instruction require different seating arrangements. It's also a no-brainer that classrooms should be inviting, environments that make students feel good to be there. Students spend much of their day in classrooms that almost never feel warm and homelike. Rooms that do will improve student morale and make students happier to be there. This requires having more on the walls than butcher paper and more on the floor than hard tiles! A class room must have a positive climate. The children must feel a sense of security. The atmosphere must be conducive to taking safe challenges with out fear of ridicule. A classroom that has a place for students to come together and share puts students at ease. They do not feel singled out. Having a classroom rug helps define the space for carpet time and gives kids an easy to understand place to go when they are called on to go to the circle. We have seen it time and time again that when there is a defined space for carpet time kids quickly learn where to go and sit down more quickly and easily. By having a rug in which students can sit and participate will increase participation. A rug is a great place to gather as a whole group or as small groups. Rugs allow students to sit in a comfortable place while learning. My students deserve such a place. It is more important than ever for teachers to have an easy to manage classroom. Teachers know that assigned seating helps reduce issues between students and it helps each day run more smoothly. As you can see rugs are essential in every classroom. By funding this project you will be rewarded!
