Can you imagine having the energy of a six-year-old and only having a hard chair as an option to sit on for six hours? Sounds painful! I have watched students struggle for several years with uncomfortable seating choices. This coming year, I want students to be excited to come to my classroom and have more unique options of places to sit. I am asking for a few wobble chairs, wobble cushions, and a carpet for our central meeting place. The two different kinds of wobble chairs will allow students to sit either at their desk or on the floor, force them to move a little, and help them focus on accomplishing their daily tasks. A 2015 study by researchers at the University of California, Davis MIND Institute found that fidgeting for children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder helps them think. The large carpet will provide my students with a clean and comfortable space to learn, work collaboratively, and to rest. Last year, I used an old foam mat, but since it was cheap it fell apart and was stained by the end of the year. It is essential to provide my students with a diverse classroom that fits their learning style and gives them a daily opportunity to choose where they can work best.
