Taking out old fashioned desks and replacing them with modern tables will create a sense of family in our classroom. Families sit around a table for dinner to discuss their day, we will sit around our table to learn and grow. Students learn from other students as well as from their mistakes. We work in groups often and need to be in close quarters. Being together as a family unit will help them to make connections to what they may be researching or experimenting with. Desks make that difficult, therefore, tables seem to be the way to go! My students will use these tables to work together to decipher the differences between maps, understand articles and read sources in social studies. In science, they will work together by making messes and testing hypotheses all while learning!
