Students need a place to practice what they are learning. My students need a table for a designated place for small groups. Small groups are where it is quiet, the students open up more easily, and the teacher can monitor more closely what the students are doing. It needs to be more formal than sitting on the floor, with space for the students to work and where the teacher can provide correction. The table would be used daily to teach guided reading and guided math to three groups of four to five students. I would use carefully planned activities including "word work" and counting to twenty.
