An Apple iPad will help my students reduce the time they wait to create, record and edit their art tutorials for our special CAMS (Creative Arts Middle School) team. Since entering CAMS students have learned that there is more to making videos than recording and posting the games they play online. But when a student spends creative time perfecting an art video project only to find that their borrowed equipment is too outdated to transfer or save a file they feel cheated. They are proud of their creative efforts but no one outside our classroom will see it. The Creative Arts Middle School team would like to create a visual library for students who struggle to understand simple art concepts by creating videos to explain art elements and design principals. This would be a valuable resource for all of my classes, especially for students entering art for the first time or for new students who arrive after concepts have already been covered. Students often learn best from peers, but lack of equipment limits our time and ability to build our own art video library. Presently CAMS students create short videos about how they make their individual works of art. I loan them my personal cameras, iPad, iPhone, and Mac Book in class. I engage students who have no equipment in team building activities while they wait their turn to become productive video creators. Students have been respectful of my equipment, but I do not have enough to support an entire classroom and toting these items back and forth each day from home to school has become exhausting. I hold high standards for my CAMS team not only in the classroom but also as role models in the school. They have not disappointed me, and they deserve proper technology.
