My main goal in my classroom is to create an atmosphere that is calm, loving and secure. I want my students to know they are seen, heard and supported. I have found that when those things are present, the love and desire for learning will happen. With the current guidelines of social distancing in our classroom, the opportunity for my students to be able to find different places in the room, with flexible seating and individualized learning materials is more important than ever. They need to feel like they have a voice in their surroundings in spite of the many guidelines they are currently being required to follow. I want them to know they have choices during different times of learning throughout the day. Some of these resources will address the need for sensory seating for a few friends and many of the other resources will be used during our center time where they can read in different spots in the room as well as our fun Fridays, they could utilize the flexible seating. These materials will also be available for our calm down corner, if friends are having moments that their emotions need to be explored, they can do so with comfortable, desirable seating. The ability to have options will be a motivator to continue expanding their learning wheelhouse and afford many options than have never been exposed too.
