In the readers and writers workshop, students need quality leveled texts that they can access through guided reading and through independent reading time. I have requested leveled texts in E and F range because my school library has limited variety and quantity in these resources. I have funded my own classroom in the last several years with the reading and writers workshop teaching curriculum, but I cannot afford the student books that are necessary to use with the system. Students need access to leveled texts so they can read at their instructional level, see how authors craft their work, and apply to their own writing and thinking.
