Students that come into our community are individuals. They read at their own level, they have their own interests, and they enjoy reading in their own peaceful space. Each reader in our classroom is encouraged to form opinions and to articulate their thoughts surrounding the books that they read. One section of our Reader's Workshop divides students into small groups to enhance learning and create connected literature discussions about books. Each Literature Discussion Group chooses a book like The Bad Beginning, Ivy and Bean, or the One and Only Ivan that follows their interest. The four other sections in my grade level switch students and books around so that these small reading groups can work with a lot of different readers that have literacy interests in common. This project will allow a Literature Discussion Group Library to begin in my classroom. These books will be shared with four other 2nd grade classrooms allowing 130 students to get the opportunity to interact with readers who are just like them.
