I teach in a wonderful school in Iowa. We are a small school of about 235 students and have struggled to remain open due to low student numbers and high poverty rate (over 50%), while the rest of the elementaries in our district run close to 400 students and a poverty rate of 25% or below. I wouldn't trade this teaching experience for any other place because of our wonderful staff, caring parents, and most importantly great kids with a driving ambition to be the best possible leaders they can be. We teach the "whole" child, not just academics, but skills that will help them become responsible citizens of our community who will lead the business world to keep our town the wonderful place we call home. Within the walls of my classroom, I have approximately 30% of students who are identified as special education students with learning, mental, or behavioral disorders and 10-20% of students receive support through our Title 1 program. We are a TEAM and all work together!
