In our Academics for Life class, we have 3rd through 6th grade. We have students with Autism, Down Syndrome, ADHD, and Intellectual Disabilities. Each student brings his/her own unique style of learning to the table daily. No matter their learning style though, they are eager to learn and to be able to contribute their knowledge to the lesson. There are three teachers in our pod, and the students rotate classes throughout the day. We have tables and chairs set up for our students instead of desks, so movement is much easier for them. After researching best learning environments for special needs students, we realized our students needed more than what we were providing. Being a Title One district, we do not have money in our budget for the flexible seating, the fluorescent light covers, and many other items our students need in order to be successful. Any help we can receive will be awesome!
