Students need a place in every classroom that is their "spot"; their one place that they know is there everytime, just for them. This routine not only helps all students feel safe and secure but helps the music teacher stay organized. Music lessons will run smoother when students have a specific place to come to in the music room. My students need a new, larger rug in the music room so that we can all sit together comfortably and so that each student has a "place". The rug we currently use is very small so it's impossible to have assigned seats for students and have adequate room to move around. Students in younger grades need assigned seats at this age so that they have a set routine. Imagine a world with no arguing about who is going to sit next to who! This, unfortunately, has been a daily problem in my room. A new, larger rug would give us so many seating options while listening to stories or playing singing games. Students would be comfortable and will have a more enjoyable experience!
