This upcoming school year will be my 4th year teaching. My first 3 years I taught 5th grade math, but this upcoming year I will teach 5th grade self-contained (I’ll teach all subjects). As I look forward and begin to think about the upcoming year, I realize my current classroom library is in need of some serious revamping. In the past, my classroom library was hardly touched due to the fact that I only taught math to 3 rotating classes. However, since I will be teaching reading this year as well, I would like to have a high quality selection of books where students have a variety of genres and levels to choose from. Reading is a highly important skill that makes an impact in all subject areas and in all careers. Having this variety of books will increase student engagement, motivation, and interest in reading. By providing students with the opportunity to read good, quality books at school, I know they will fall in love with books and develop stamina for reading. All donated money will go toward buying classroom books and novels on many different reading levels to ensure each child has books to choose from. This classroom library will make an enormous impact for many years to come as the next 100+ students that come to my room will be given the opportunity to truly fall in love with reading and become lifelong readers.
