High school students today need to be exposed to the important issues affecting our country. Scholastic Upfront magazines not only provide information on national issues, but present both sides equally and encourage student debate on the issues. I would like to use these materials to encourage discussion and teach students how to determine credibility and bias in print media. Upfront magazines would come every 2 weeks to my classroom and are written at an appropriate reading level and provide excellent background information for every article. They also provide current events that affect teenagers and are an excellent springboard for discussions in the classroom.
