In order to foster a classroom geared towards community, I have majority of the desks in groups along with three tables raised at different heights. My small group table is for intervention/remediation where I would like to use the colorful stools. One table is raised on risers for students who may want to work while standing or sit on the bar stools. There is a table I have taking the extenders from the legs in order for the students to sit on the carpet and work from. The last table is raised a little higher to give the students the options of working on their knees; it is on the carpet. I want to welcome movement in the classroom and encourage my students' involvement in their learning. Flexible seating allows students to take responsibility of their learning and choose what option best suits their learning style. I believe in order for us to build a healthy community in the classroom, they must feel comfortable and confident.
