One of my biggest goals as a first-grade teacher is for my students to LOVE reading by the middle of the school year. First graders tend to jump reading levels more quickly than students in other grades. In fact, they are expected to go through twice as many reading levels than kindergartners according to the grade level correlations created by Fountas and Pinnell. My students do not have any difficulty finding books that interest them, but their ever-changing reading levels make it more challenging to find books that match their current reading abilities. These leveled readers will help give my students options that will not only increase their enthusiasm for reading but also their skills in decoding and comprehension. As a new teacher, my library currently consists of mostly used books, and my students with the lowest levels sometimes have trouble finding books they can read. These additions to our library would be very greatly appreciated by our class!
