The puppet theater will allow Scholars to practice some very important skills like developing oral language, improving relationships, and cognitive development. Scholars will use the characters' puppets to retell their favorite nursery rhyme. For some non English speaking Scholars it is the first time they have heard some of the traditional rhymes and tales. Walking into my Pre-K classroom it might look like students are just playing, but the reality is they are actively learning. Research says play helps with communication, relationship building and improves cognitive development. Puppets are great teaching tools, they get the Scholars attention. The puppets allow Scholars to use their imagination. They come up with their own stories to retell and act out. Scholars are often heard using new vocabulary words they have picked up during the teacher retell. Using puppets in the classroom helps Scholars with memorizing, attention and thinking. These are building blocks Scholars will need for the rest of their life.
