This straw rocket launcher will be able to be used at a different capacity in 6th-8th grade integrating more STEM while working towards NGSS aligned units. 6th grade covers forces and motion, 7th has a beginning of the year aeronautics unit, and 8th covers potential and kinetic energy. Through the engineering and design process, students will test variables such as mass, length, fin and nosecone shape, and launch angle to then design, test, and modify a rocket able to achieve the greatest range. This quality straw rocket launcher is precise and durable with a solid reputation. The launcher includes launch angles and pressure amounts to help students with gathering data and analysis as they modify their designs. The straw rocket launcher has a short enough range to be used in an indoor gymnasium, which allows for more precise data collection and flexibility with the weather. The main materials for the straw rockets included with this set can be reusable (straws and clay), only index cards and tape would be consumables for designing fins and nosecones for each rocket. This will allow for many years of use as well as variations and challenges in the future.
