The ipads and keyboards will immediately go to use in my classroom. I already have several real-world project and problem based activities for the students engage in throughout the year. Students use the iPad to gather information about an issue. They may read articles and view interviews and videos on a wide variety of topics. They then create a presentation using one of the many iPad apps or go online and use tools such as PowerPoint. Students in my school test online and need to develop their typing skills. Having the regular keyboard to attach will help them develop these skills and help protect the iPads from damage. Using the iPads for research, choosing a point of view on an issue, and creating a presentation, will develop important real-world critical thinking skills. Having access to this technology opens up the world for my students in a way that I can not do on my own. Learning to navigate, utilize, and determine the validity of information they access online is another valuable skill they will sharpen through the use of the iPads. With so many students, these tools will be in constant use which is why the protective case with the keyboard will be beneficial.
