I need to provide my students with a seating space where they can work together to apply what they are learning to their real lives. Students learn best when they are able to connect what they are learning in the classroom to something real and concrete in their personal lives. One way in which students do this is that they think through their ideas out loud with others to make sense of new information. My students currently do not have a rug where they can leave all of their materials at their desks and come engage in educational activities. I have also requested a set of cushions knowing that different students in my classroom have different needs than others. Cushions would allow my students who have greater difficulty focusing or with the tendency to become overly stimulated by close proximity to others to be able to still participate with their peers but to also have their own space to do so. Lastly, I also think it is very important that I participate and check in on discussions during collaborative learning time and I believe that having a teacher rocking chair that is low to the ground would greatly help me in doing this. A classroom seating area would create a place where the students would have the opportunity to work with all of their classmates as well as a place for students to continue developing their language skills. The students in my classroom are incredibly hard working individuals with lots of great ideas. As their teacher, I want to give them the highest quality education possible because I believe without a doubt that they are completely deserving of it. I want my students to explore the world around them so that they can plan their own successful futures.
