From my classroom experience, I have found that Kindergarten students enjoy movement and choice. Sitting in one spot for a large amount of time can prove difficult for some and their focus on learning can wander. Currently at our Library Center I have four scoop chairs and they are always occupied. The students seem to be calmer and more focused when in the chairs. The flexible seating options that I have chosen for this project such as the wobble stools, balance ball chairs, stand up student desks and sit spots will help more students to have a choice that helps makes them the most comfortable and focused in our classroom. During reading meetings, students will be able to choose the best fit seating option for them, helping them to better focus on reading strategies that are being taught. These resources will also be helpful to students during our whole group literacy lessons that are primarily taught on the carpet. These flexible seating options will be used all throughout our school day and will be accessible to all. The sit spots will be used during our large group areas and the different colors will help me with classroom management plans as students can change spots in different areas of the classroom. The fidget bands will be added to students chairs to help them if they feel the need for body movement. Most kindergarten aged students tend to be in motion more of the time than they are still. No two students are exactly the same and this definitely holds true when it comes to learning and what makes a students the most comfortable during their school day.
