Our school is 97% fee and reduced lunch. That means that 100% of our students are eligible to receive free breakfast every morning, and 97% are eligible for a free or reduced lunch. I work at a school that has consistently struggled for the past ten years. We have a difficult population-I would say that out of my 20 students, maybe two still live both a mother and a father. Our school is one of the top ten transitory schools in the county. Our students come and go when their parents are kicked out of their apartments. I often feel like I may be the only good influence my students see everyday. I love them dearly, and I feel that they deserve the same advantages that students with demographics and social classes have.
