I'm excited to embark on a flexible seating project this year. I've researched much about it this summer, and have learned about the positive effects it has on student behavior management, the increase in on-task activity, and the improvement it encourages in academic scores. As a veteran teacher, I'll admit I'm entering this a bit nervously. However, my focus has always been on what's best for kids as I design my lessons and set up the space for my classroom. I usually have the kiddos in my room who aren't special education kids but do have needs related to ADD/ADHD diagnoses. Creating a space in which they can move to different locations in our classroom and in which they can "wiggle" or "fidget" with an object that allows them to focus without distracting others has become of great importance for me. I've also requested some electric pencil sharpeners since that that is an item our district won't purchase for us. While it doesn't fit in necessary with flexible seating, it is an essential classroom item. I'm appreciative of any support given by donors for this project which helps me to do what's best for kids! Thanks!
