Think back to when you were in grade school, specifically 6th grade. Think about what your classroom was like. Recall something you wish was different. Now imagine the chance to make that difference for the next generation! My project aims to add some flair and pizzazz to how my students get work done around the classroom. The most expensive ticket item is a set of five balance balls as a part of my flexible seating system. Table groups will compete by meeting class expectations and earning points to have the privilege to substitute their traditional chair for a balance ball. It'll help get the wiggles out for many students in a quiet way. Building on to my flexible seating system is also access to use the Big Joe Dorm chair and padded stools. Again, it'll provide an opportunity to swap out the normal chair and allow for flexible seating around the classroom. As a result, students will focus on meeting expectations and taking responsibility for their actions. And because table groups are competing for points, students will have to collaborate and work together to keep their eyes on the prize! The final two items are classroom fixtures that I will use as command centers for different purposes. The organizer cart would serve as a supply station for classroom goods, but also as the deposit box for assignments. Each assignment would have an "In-Box", where students would sign off to acknowledge their submission of an assignment. And each folder would be kept in its appropriate drawer for students to access rather than ask me where to turn something in. The Pocket Chart is the mailroom for the class. Anything outgoing would be stacked near the chart for early finishers of assignments to sort and distribute into the correct slot.
