My students love to do art. It is a creative outlet that lets them express themselves. Furthermore, art is a valuable educational tool. My students often complete art projects based upon what they are learning in science and it helps them solidify their understanding; for example, drawing anatomically correct sea turtles after a unit on marine biology and the ocean. Art is an equal opportunity subject, where ALL students get the chance to shine and show off their creativity. With very little art supplies, it is challenging to incorporate art and teach techniques using different art mediums. Introducing painting would be an incredible asset to my classroom and my second grade artists.
