In fourth grade students feel one of two ways about reading: They have found a passionate love for reading and carry a book with them everywhere they go or they are feeling completely overwhelmed by the rigor of reading expectations of such young learners. At such a vulnerable age it is imperative for educators to nurture the love for reading that most students at one point or another had. As only a second year teacher and one that also fell victim in fourth grade to the loss of love for reading I am here to do everything in my power to make sure every student of mine has the tools they need for exceptional reading skills. This in turn will set these children up to be life long readers. I am hoping to add high-interest readers to my library next year as well as books that will interest my students in History. Starting in the fall I will also be implementing the Daily 5 rotation center in my ELA block for optimal differentiation. For these centers I will need a number of different materials in order to better differentiate for my students. These materials include grammar sorts, literature matching sorts, text evidence center, and of course BOOKS!
