We are working hard to become a 21st Century, Inquiry Based Classroom! With iPads in the classroom students will have access to digital books, relevant news articles, tools to creatively share their learning, and the opportunity to practice being responsible digital citizens... right in our very own classroom! Revolutionary technology needs to be intentionally taught to be used as a vehicle for teaching and learning! With devices such as iPads, new worlds can open to young students! While our classroom library might be limited to books I've found at garage sales, received through donations, or brought from my own home, having access to our county's digital library collection of ebooks would undoubtedly help more students find THE book that makes them feel like a READER! Also, finding audio books to help motivate, encourage, and empower struggling readers is another tool I look forward to using. I know how much kids enjoy creating interesting videos as a way to share their new learning, and I would love to help them develop this skill! One goal I have for the upcoming school year is to help students create engaging Public Service Announcements to share with the rest of our school, based on in-class inquiries. I would also love the opportunity to help kids share about the books they are reading, and post those book talks for others in our school and classroom community to access. I have seen the power of engaging readers through book talks, and posting book trailers would be a way for more students to become actively engaged in the reading process. Learning 21st Century skills is becoming more and more important for young students. Students' academics will become more digitally-focused as they progress in school, and learning to effectively and efficiently use these tools will help
