Flexible seating within the classroom allows students to determine how they can best focus on the most important classroom activity...learning to love reading! The goal of this project is to ensure that every type of learner can find a way to become a reader who loves reading, and that starts with having more comfortable options. Twenty-five minutes of every class is dedicated to reading choice novels to promote literacy and fluency growth. Sitting all day is uncomfortable, and the items I have requested will allow students to choose a successful space in the classroom to be a little more comfortable while they focus on the task at hand. The stools will give students the option of sitting at a small table together, specifically to work on projects related to their novels. The seat cushions will provide seating for those who would like to relax on the carpet and stretch out a little. Most importantly, options such as the wiggle seats and exercise balls will allow students who struggle to concentrate an extra outlet for energy that does not disrupt their learning. Students who can move while learning retain the information better.
