Many of these resources will be used to help me set up this intensive behavior program. This will be the first time the intensive behavior classroom will be included at our school and I am responsible for furnishing it. Therefore, I am trying to set up a calm environment where they feel safe. I am also trying to ensure their basic needs are being met before I ask them to learn. Therefore, I am asking for materials like yoga mats and blankets for them to lay down on when they didn't get enough sleep the night before. I also am wanting to utilize lamps instead of overhead lights to create a more calming environment. These resources will also help them develop some of the social and emotional skills that they struggle with. These students often do not leave the intensive behavior classroom. They may be in my room all day without going outside to recess or going to PE. Consequently, I need some resources to help them still get some of that movement out. The games will aid in the development of their social skills by having them work with peers and adults. My students need help with taking turns, interacting with others, and even how to appropriately lose at games. Many of my students have struggled in general education settings. Many haven't had pleasant learning experiences. I would like to change this for them by creating an environment they feel safe in and can help meet their basic needs.
