Sensory rooms are often found in only certain education environments. Our school is the first in our county to pool professional and personal resources to create a safe environment for not only sensory special needs students but students who are struggling with personal emotional issues many as a result of being homeless. In the brief time we have implemented this room we have been able to see positive emotional and educational growth in sensory needy students as well as emotionally needy students. These materials will allow us to create a soothing wonderland and safe place for many students to decompress. The hopper balls allow for release of energy for students who have focusing needs, the tents provide a safe place to "remove" themselves from stressors. The magnetic puzzles promote fine motor skills and increase critical thinking while also allowing for practice of sustained attention and problem solving.
