Flexible seating is more than finding a comfortable seat. Students are better equipped to collaborate, move, and share. It encourages student to share space and supplies, as well as how to take turns. During work time, student will be able to choose where they work, with whom they work, and a flexible seating option that suits them. They will be able to choose between a wobble chair, a wobble disc, a surf desk, or finding a spot on the rug. Students feel empowered when they are given autonomy over their learning, which then increases investment, focus, and growth. Flexible seating options encourages student choice by allowing students to choose where they work best and with whom. Each student has different learning needs, so he or she can pick which option works best for their learning style— whether that’s a wobble stool, a spot on the rug, a surf desk, or a wobble disc they can take to their desk. Study after study agree that physical movements increases academic performance. Students who remain sedentary decrease blood flow to the brain, which decreases creativity and engagement. Flexible seating can help address this need by allowing students to get up and move throughout the day while also providing collaborative work spaces!
