Flexible seating allows students to take charge of their learning and make the choices that work best for them. My students do not have assigned seats. They constantly move and pick new places based on the activity we will be doing. My students have a variety of places to work in our room currently. They can work with a lap desk, sit on a crate seat that they have moved to a quiet corner, use a floor chair, or sit on a yoga ball. Making sure students are comfortable is an essential component in motivating them. I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they are given a choice in their seating. They almost always make good choices about where they sit, are more engaged, and get more work completed than when they are just sitting at their desk. They are learning what they need as a learner. Flexible seating allows students to create their learning environment and discover the mental and physical conditions in which they work best. The products that I have selected will help my students by giving them additional seating options to make more effective learning choices. The comfy couch will provide a section of the room that will give the students a place to relax and think. The active stools will allow the students who need to wiggle and move while they think another option besides a yoga ball. These stools are able to be moved around the room easily to encourage collaboration.
