We'd like to provide two classroom sets of the book, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, to be shared among the four language arts teachers. Students will read the book and complete interdisciplinary projects prior to seeing the play. They will complete a creative cumulative project related to the book upon completion of the book. They may choose between creating a diorama representing a scene in the book, create a diorama displaying their own version of the Emerald City, or developing an amusement park game. After attending the play, students will do follow-up activities comparing/contrasting the book and the play. We need two classroom sets of the The Wonderful Wizard of Oz book, paints, markers, and poster board for students to create dioramas, amusement parks and board games after reading the book. *Create a diorama based on a scene from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. Explain why they chose this scene and its importance to the development of the story. *Create diorama showing their own versions of the Emerald City and develop their own characters. Briefly explain their cities and the characters that they have developed. *Create a Wizard of Oz Game and explain the rules of the game and how to play. *Create their own Wizard of Oz amusement park ride. Please help us provide these cultural and creative opportunities to our students!
