Close your eyes and imagine yourself in a third grade classroom. You have a laptop in front of you, with a program that is catered exactly to your needs, a digital book that can be read aloud to you, or a multimedia video to expand upon what you are learning in science - sounds good right? But now imagine that you don't have headphones, and neither do the 5 kids working around you. The whole classroom is buzzing with educational discourse, but how can you focus? Headphones are an essential component to student success on the computer! Technology is a huge part of my classroom! We are a 1-to-1 school which means that each student in the classroom has a laptop. As part of our growing digital age, the students are working on the computers more and more and steering away from traditional pen/paper assignments. Students are able to expand upon their learning through digital content and media. They are also able to change the way they present projects and turn in assignments. Without headphones, students are distracted by others around them and are not able to receive the full benefits that having a computer can provide. Sadly the scenario mentioned above is a reality in my classroom as not everyone is able to afford good quality headphones. I want to be able to provide headphones for my students so that they may all have the opportunity to excel in a digital classroom.
