TIME For Kids is a weekly magazine that makes the world news reader-friendly and interesting to a fourth grader. Most of my students have no reading materials in their home and by reading TIME For Kids, will have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge base, vocabulary, and understanding of issues that are important to their daily life. TIME For Kids has interesting articles that students can relate to, are easy to read, and have tons of pictures and graphs that keep them engaged. Because I have a wide range of readers (non-readers to above grade level), we will do most of our reading as a whole class. Informational text is something that most students enjoy and is difficult to find. It gives me, as the teacher, the opportunity to teach key reading concepts and vocabulary. Students will have the opportunity to read some articles independently and respond in writing to what they have read. Practicing all of these skills will help students become better readers, writers, and students.
