Learning English is an important part of my students' education in the U.S., however, they should also be maintaining their home language, and one of the best ways to do that is through leisure reading books that interest them in their native language. By hosting a multilingual library, it demonstrates to all students a school culture of diversity and inclusiveness. This year, my school has launched a designed and sacred reading time and day, during which all students, school wide, are engaging in silent, sustained reading. Research shows that strong reading skills can lead to success in school and later in life. Informed students become informed adults who make wise choices in the future.

About my class
