My classroom consists of students with a variety of multiple disabilities. They have deficits that range from to autism to social anxiety and anger issues. We very limited on funding and are in the need of new hands on learning material. My students are hands on learners and need materials to help inspire their minds. The variety of items chosen will help social skills in a group setting and give them the confidence to explore their imaginations to share with each other. They often have great visual discrimination and pattern recognition skills, plus the ability to concentrate for extended periods of time and successfully engage in repetitive activities. Their abilities do vary and this variety of items will reach all types of learners. My students work in a variety of stations throughout the day and these items will make their educational process engaging and fun and also supports them socially. By using STEM items they are made to think outside the box and create by using their hands, as most are visual learners. My lessons will be clearly explained and they will be provided with clear explanations of what is expected in each group. Some of the lessons will consist of them making models out of clay to show landform creations, the dry erase markers are used in lessons for them to follow along by writing on their own mini whiteboard, the magnetic items are used for students to make creations and the construction paper/ cardstock will be used when doing lessons that require extension activities. They are appreciative of anything they receive and watching them develop a love for learning and become the artists they truly are, is heartwarming and is a constant reminder of my love for teaching.
