Emotional and mental health issues are more common for students than ever. Students feel anxiety and stress on a daily basis. Students often do not know how to cope or have strategies to destress and decompress. While building relationships and mentoring students has always been a part of the teaching and learning in my classroom, this year purposeful social-emotional learning is necessary to support many students' overall well-being. When students have a sensory object, stress ball, or fidget object, students' stress level decreases because they are not focusing on the anxiety. Additionally, games help students build social skills and a classroom culture of family. Supporting students' mental health is an important goal for me, especially since the start of the COVID pandemic.
