American Sign Language is a visual language. Relying only on our sight all the time, is difficult, because our ears don't get tired of hearing, but our eyes get tired of seeing. I need 1 of 10 active seating chairs to allow my students MOVE to stay awake and release excessive energy while they learn American Sign Language. On the other hand, our society, but specially this generation of kids are being constantly bombarded by media, both aurally and visually. This constant stimulus makes it even harder to focus in a super quiet environment for an entire period of 90 minutes in which they will not be listening to my voice or their classmates, but instead will have to look to our hands and facial expressions to understand what we are saying in Sign Language. Having these active seating chairs will allow them to move, release excessive energy, stay awake and most important of all, will help them focus and be ready to learn American Sign Language. These kids have so much potential, and it is amazing to think how something as simple as an active seating chair will positively impact their learning!
