I have carefully selected award winning picture books that can be used to help teach empathy and social justice. The settings of the books are all across the world and feature characters who are immigrants, refugees, children with special needs, and kids learning to show compassion. As a math and science teacher, I do not have dedicated time to read to my students. I would love to read these beautiful books during morning meetings to elicit meaningful discussions and teach activism in an age appropriate way. I hope to use these books to build classroom community and inspire students to make a difference in their world.
