I teach an extremely diverse group of third graders in Chicago. In the Chicago Public Schools, third grade is a benchmark year, which means it is even more crucial that my students are reading on grade level by the time they take their first high-stakes standardized test in March. Although I have many reluctant readers, almost every student loves reading non-fiction and learning new facts and information they can share with their friends and families. However, I need more on-level nonfiction that they can read, enjoy and learn from.
