One way to meet the needs of my students is to meet with them in small groups that are designed to differentiate based on their specific math needs. While one small group is meeting with me, some students may be playing the games that reinforce prealgebra skills. Other students may be using manipulatives such as the number lines and cuisinaire rods. Students may also be recording their work by using the dry erase clipboards, using sticky notes or writing in their interactive notebooks. These activities can be completed independently or in other small groups. The exciting and engaging materials I have requested will allow my students to interact with math content while I drill down and address the varying needs of the small groups working in a teacher led group. Students learn best when their learning is hands-on and targeted to their specific needs.
