The Learning Lab is a place where everyone is welcome because no one is perfect, but anything is possible! Often times the students who utilize the Learning Lab are in need of a break from the general education classroom or their challenging behaviors prevent them from being in the general education setting full time. Being within a low income and rural community, many families are not able to provide the variety of therapies and supports special needs children require outside of the school day. It is my desire to make the Learning Lab a place where my students feel welcome just the way they are, but they are encouraged to strive for their very best. It is my desire to provide the best support during the school day possible and within the Learning Lab our district OT and SLP are able to provide therapies to students. When working with students with challenging behaviors, it is important for me to teach them the skills to learn how to regulate their emotions and express feelings in a healthy and appropriate manner in and out of the Learning Lab. The beanbag chairs will be used to create a safe break space within the Learning Lab for students to work on these skills. The carpet will be used as a visual boundary for students to sit in during whole group instruction. In addition, the wobble seat and seat cushions will be used to implement flexible seating in the Learning Lab.
