Many of the students in my classroom come from low income homes and/or where English is not their first language. Sometimes my students come to school hungry and tired. As an elementary teacher, I am sometimes the only positive influence in my students' lives. Haim Ginott once said, "As a teacher, I possess tremendous power to make a child's life miserable or joyous." I believe learning should be hands-on and meaningful. A classroom should be filled with hands-on activities that promote learning and experimentation.
