Students feel empowered when they are given a choice and control over their environment. Flexible seating allows students to choose where they work and with whom. It also allows them to change their location and positions as needed. Plus it's fun! Flexible seating encourages students to find their best spot to stay calm, focused, productive, and engaged! Allowing students to have a choice, giving them control, and helping them to stay calm and engaged, are all crucial elements for Kindergarteners. My kids are 5 and 6 years old which means their attention span is limited to 10-15 minutes maximum. If activities last longer than 10-15 minutes my students start to get fidgety. Children need to be actively engaged in their learning and with Flexible seating, like wobble chairs, or soft seats, will allow them to do just that!
