My students love to build and create with the blocks and Legos I have in my classroom. However, I would love to give them more time and more tools to continue expanding on their creative processes. I wanted to find materials of different shapes, sizes, colors, and textures to enhance the learning experience for my students. These materials would spark curiosity and provide different ways for students to engage in STEM activities. Each manipulative was chosen because it is unique and will inspire creativity. Students will have a chance to spend time with these materials in free exploration during workstations, where they will use their imagination and skills to create. Using materials like the magnetic blocks will teach them about magnets as they build structures. The bristle blocks have a unique texture, giving students a sensory experience while they create. The Brain Flakes are intricately designed manipulatives that will force students to think outside the box to link them together and form something with them. The Transpara blocks are similar to Legos, but the transparent colors of these will also teach the students about light, and the difference between transparent and opaque colors. The purpose of having a variety of materials is to expand the children's creativity. By having more options to work with, students must evaluate their options, make decisions, and create a final product. With enough STEM materials, I would even be able to dedicate time specifically for working with the manipulatives and expanding our thinking and creativity skills. Giving young children time to explore on their own is truly the best way for them to grow, and these materials would give them amazing, innovative experiences
