Flexible seating allows students to take ownership and responsibility of their learning and work. During group work and independent practice students choose a location that works best for their learning style. As of now my students get to work around our room in places such as; different tables, using clipboards, or laying on the floor. Students find a sense of pride when they get to make decisions about their work space. They are more engaged when they have the option of where to work. Their effort increases and there is a certain amount of pride that shows in their work. The products that I selected will help my students by giving them more options to enhance their learning experience. The Wobble Chairs will help students that need to move around and get their wiggles out. The Flex-Space Giant Comfy Pillow, Big Beanbag Seat, and Balance Ball Seats will allow for more comfortable floor seating options. They can be moved to different areas of the classroom which allows for many options for my students. In the short amount of time that I have tried flexible seating, I have seen an increase in engagement and eagerness to start different projects. I’m hoping that giving them more options will them grow and explore even more!
