With several years of experience teaching literacy, having student-access to quality books will always be a pertinent part of my classroom. With the products from Crystal Productions and "Children Should Know" series, my students will build their reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary while also diving deeper into the world of art. Exploring different media gives students opportunities to express themselves in many unique ways, as well as see what its like to create various pieces from cultures different from our own. Without a working kiln in my room, the toaster oven and clay will allow my students to not only create small, unique projects, but will also teach them how ancient cultures used clay in their daily lives, and develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination. The paper, paints, and markers will allow students to draft ideas and add colorful details to any art piece; the rack for the paints will instill responsibility and returning material to its proper place. When completing self-portraits, the multicultural crayons will help us to better represent each of our unique skin tones we see in our classroom. I want my students gain an appreciation and love for the world around them. By bringing the world to them, they will experience how and why different cultures create art, as well as build a self-confidence and pride in their own artistic creations.
